What is Family Mediation?

What?

Family mediation is a process that aims to assist couples to split up successfully following separation or divorce.

It involves an impartial mediator or mediators guiding a couple, in a confidential and safe environment, to try to reach a sustainable and practical agreement about the issues they want to resolve: finances/property and/or children.

Who is it for?

Family mediation is for couples who are in the process of splitting up or getting divorced, or have done so. They might be married, in a civil partnership or co-habiting, and be different or same sex. Sometimes they have children, and sometimes not.

Family mediation is not however always suitable. Prior to any mediation taking place, we  will always have an initial meeting with you to assess whether mediation might be suitable, or whether there are other pathways that may be more suited to your circumstances. Mediation will in any case not proceed unless you both agree it should take place. To find out more, see How It Works.
